Meet the Blogger – Lucille van Ommeren-Kerman
In our latest interview series which I like to call “Meet the Blogger”, where I spotlight inspiring creatives on this Blogger Magazine. We caught up with Lucille van Ommeren-Kerman who runs Anastasiasword Blog.
- Tell us a little bit about yourself and your blog?
I’m a 26-year-old happily married woman. I love writing, reading, creating, watching good movies, singing, and doing fun stuff with my husband, relatives, and friends. My blog is a place where I want to help people to discover themselves and help them live a life, they are truly happy and passionate about. I write blogs about mental health, self-love, self-care, self-improvement.
- Describe what inspired you to start your blog?
At some point in life, I felt I wasn’t happy about how certain things in my life were going. I had a feeling that I could live a life I was more passionate about. As advised by my husband, I talked a lot to my pastor and friend.
One of the best advices she gave me, was to find out what I liked and enjoyed, to get to know myself better. What my hobbies were. I did that and I realized that all this time I neglected what I really liked doing. I remembered that as a kid I started a ‘documentary book’, which I sadly must have thrown out by now. I also realized that years ago I started writing a book, and that I loved reading and creating things. I also remembered all the times I worked on other peoples their articles at work (I work as an associate editor), thinking about how great it would be if one day someone was editing my work. After a lot of searching, I finally knew what I wanted to do. I wanted to write, I wanted to have my own platform where I can write, create, and help others. Where I can use my imagination. Where I can help others go through what I went through. I realized that knowing who you are and what you want out of life play a big part in your mental health and happiness. And so, my dream started. I wrote my first novelette and I bought a domain to start my blog.
- How do you motivate yourself to keep the blog up and running?
I have a dream of what I want to achieve with my passion. To be a successful blogger and author and make an impact on people’s lives. And reaching that goal is my biggest motivation. To look back one day and remember that it all started with a simple blog.
- How active are you on a weekly basis? How often do you communicate with your followers?
I post a new blog once a week. I don’t have a lot of followers yet, but I try to reply to comments almost every day.
- What do you think is the best social media strategy for getting more visitors to a blog?
Engaging with your audience, by replying to comments and messages. But also focusing on what your audience wants. What kind of posts get more attention, what will help your audience? Also try to post consistently.
- Would you encourage other people to make their blog?
Yes definitely. It is a great feeling to have your own space and platform to share your stories and advice with others.
- A lot of people think that blogging is an easy way to make money online. Do you have some tips for those people who are interested in making money from the blog?
I don’t know about the easy part, but I have read stories from successful bloggers that do inspire me. Personally, I’m not making any money with my blog yet, because my blog is relatively young, but I’m looking forward to it.
- What was the most challenging moment in your blogging journey so far?
So far it would be growing my email subscribers and joining affiliate programs.
- What is your greatest achievement outside of blogging?
Writing my first novelette.
- Who is your blogging hero And Why?
The first blog I came across that made me see that it was possible to make a living as a blogger, was Taylor Stanford her blog. And after that, I came across Cathrin Manning, who I think is one of the most open and honest bloggers and I learned a lot from her. It is inspiring to see what these two have accomplished so far.
- What advice would you give to a new blogger starting out?
Just start! Don’t overthink it, if you know this is what you want, just do it. Start writing and posting, don’t stress over the small stuff like the color or appearance of your website. You can always change that afterward. Any day you wait is a day further away from your goal. Keep educating yourself and believe in yourself, join Facebook groups with fellow bloggers, and follow people on social media platforms whom you can learn from. Enjoy the journey and don’t give up, because good things take time.
- Have you collaborated with brands? If yes, name few brands you worked with
No, I haven’t yet, but I’m planning to.
- Finally, what are your thoughts about BloggerMagazine?
I think that it is a great thing to feature bloggers and allowing them to share their stories. I am thankful that I to had this opportunity. And this is one of the great things I have been able to do since I started my blog.
