Meet The Blogger – Marissa Amick
In our latest interview series which I like to call “Meet the Blogger”, where I spotlight inspiring creatives on this Blogger Magazine. We caught up with Marissa Amick who runs blog sourcer.
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your blog?
Well, I am a new blogger. After years of THINKING about starting a blog, I finally took the leap. I gave birth to my second baby this year and really wanted to be able to soak in every minute with my children while they are young. So with the combination of a newborn in the house and always craving my dream job, I dove into the blogging world head first! I have to say, I haven’t regretted it for a minute either.
2. Describe what inspired you to start your blog?
I have SO many inspirations when it comes to why I started my blog. I didn’t start too long ago, but I had been thinking about it for years and years. I had always dreamed of a job that I could be dedicated full time to my children and make a full time income enough to support my family. After having my second baby, I finally made the leap and starting building my blog. It took me months to figure out WHAT I wanted to write about. I wanted a topic that I care about deeply, and also something that would be useful to others. I decided to write my blog, about blogging. There are so many people out there that want a flexible lifestyle, or an outlet to write about topics they are passionate about but have no clue how to get started. I decided to dedicate my time to writing articles that will show people why they should start a blog and how to do so! I hope that by releasing my articles out into the world, that people will find some of the answers that they are looking for.
3. How do you motivate yourself to keep the blog up and running?
Well, I never in my lifetime thought I would actually enjoy this part about blogging, but I love writing! If you have true interest in the topics that you are writing about, the words will just start flowing.
4. How active are you on a weekly basis? How often do you communicate with your followers?
I release articles on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I believe that consistency is KEY in a blogger’s marketing plan.
5. What do you think is the best social media strategy for getting more visitors to a blog?
I would recommend posting on pinterest and facebook on a consistent basis. Whether it is 1 time a week or 7 days a week, just be consistent and provide great content for your readers.
6. Would you encourage other people to make their blog?
Absolutely! I have found it to be a great way to earn passive income, an outlet for stress relief and to share your ideas. But for me, the biggest cherry on top is when I see that other people are reading my articles; it brings me a great sense of accomplishment knowing that I may be touching people across the world with my words.
7. A lot of people think that blogging is an easy way to make money online. Do you have some tips for those people who are interested in making money from the blog?
If you want to make money from blogging, then you most certainly can! Will you put out your first post and make millions? Probably not, but if you are consistent in what you are doing, precise with your marketing and reach out to others for guidance, you will get there. Keep your eyes on the prize, always be open minded, and seeking advice from professionals or those with years of successful experience.
8. What was the most challenging moment in your blogging journey so far?
My most challenging moment in my blogging journey so far has been the technology learning curve. I am a very tech-savvy person. So when I say I had a learning curve, what I mean by that is learning about building a website, search engine optimization, keywords, and online marketing strategies. I have a Bachelors degree in Marketing, but never during my college years did I gain any experience in website or online marketing. I have had to spend A LOT of time reading and learning from people more experience than me. Thankfully, other bloggers out there have helped me along the way with the articles they have written. Having to lean on and learn from other like bloggers has been a second motivation for me. I was able to connect with random people out there in the world that have been able to help me improve my skills on a daily basis. I hope that my blog will do the same for others in return.
9. What is your greatest achievement outside of blogging?
That is simple, the happiness of my family. Everything I do is to make sure that my family is happy, healthy and provided for. Blogging has made that possible.
10. Who is your blogging hero And Why?
Honestly, I don’t have just one. I look at any experienced blogger, especially those that share their stories with the world, as a hero. Taking the time to write about something yourself or something you care about and show it for the world to see and judge should make you hero enough!
11. What advice would you give to a new blogger starting out?
Don’t be afraid or embarrassed! When I was writing my first post I wouldn’t even show my husband or friends because I was embarrassed they would think I was an awful writer or that deciding to be a blogger was just plain dumb. Whether people support you or not, stand by your ideas and go for it! In the end, they all loved my post and thought it was an awesome idea anyways.
12. Have you collaborate with brands? If yes, name few brands you worked with
Not yet, I am still building my blog traffic and focusing on releasing new content before I move to that level.
13. Finally, what are your thoughts about BloggerMagazine?
I think the site is a great way to get a glimpse into the blogging community. Reading other people blogs, and stories, is a daily motivator for me to keep doing what I love.
