Meet The Blogger – Prakhar Kasera
In our latest interview series which I like to call “Meet the Blogger”, where I spotlight inspiring creatives on this Blogger Magazine. We caught up with Prakhar Kasera who runs food, lifestyle, fashion, tech and travel blog.
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your Blog?
Well! I started blogging about 5years back. My first blog was a food blog (myhungerdiary.com). I have been blogging since then, only my limits have increased. Then I was just running one food blog, but now I have five different domains for different genres. I have a food & travel blog (myhungerdiary.com), a travel site covering the significant tourist spots off the globe (ebjchronicles.com), a lifestyle blog in which I share the press releases too (acesque.com); then there’s a domain for tech, fashion, skin & hair care products (curexwing.com) and at last there’s a new addition of domains for publishing articles on spirits and colognes (cropsandfeather.com).
2. Describe what inspired you to start your blog?
I used to just review on several platforms about my experience whenever I visited a restaurant, cafe, lounge etc. These platforms were zomato, trip advisor, google etc. One day a fellow blogger was reading my reviews and she actually liked them very much. So it was her who encouraged me start my own blog. I wouldn’t take any names here but after a few appreciations from her and then from a few more bloggers and friends for my writing I started my first blog (myhungerdiary.com). Slowly I started gaining appreciation and started another blog for fashion (curexwing.com). And that is how I have grown. With time I added a few genres to the existing blogs and separated a few to new domains, as I felt should be right.
3. How do you motivate yourself to keep the blog up and running?
With time I have developed great love for writing and blogging. Also I keep a planner in which I have made a schedule for a month in advance. Plus all the likes, comments and appreciations I get for my posts motivate in abundance. Though I am still learning and there will always room to learn, especially the newer words, new writing ways & techniques, SEO etc.
4. How active are you on a weekly basis? How often do you communicate with your followers?
I am posting 7-8 posts per month, and for followers there is always a newsletter for all the new updates on my blogs. For those 7-8 blogs, I have 2 posts each for “Crops and Feather”, “EBJ Chronicles” and “Curex Wing”. As for AcEsque and My Hunger Diary, it’s always upon the collaboration so there isn’t any specific schedule for it.
5. What do you think is the best social media strategy for getting more visitors to a blog?
Best strategy is to focus on keywords, being well versed with your seo tactics (both on page and off page), being socially active, have pages & groups for readers & followers, forums etc. Just be active and post regularly but no focus on only one thing (be it writing & posting blogs or just seo or communicating with followers or maintaining social profiles); it is a package of all in one. Prepare a routine and work accordingly.
6. Would you encourage other people to make their blog?
If you are good at something, never let that go. If you are good in writing, then writing it is for you. But always keep one thing at your bay, blogging requires as much time you can give. Whatever time or money you invest in blogging will always be less. Plus, blogging is not just about writing, it is so much more than that. So before taking up this, consider all the aspects. Excitement is good but not just excitement.
7. A lot of people think that blogging is an easy way to make money online. Do you have some tips for those people who are interested in making money from the blog?
Blogging is not an easy way to make money online, in fact the one thing that requires to monetize the blogs is the one thing that most people lacks and that is patience. If you are patient enough and have skill set, money will be the bi-product of what you do. Just stay true to what you do, don’t go for money, it will come to you.
8. What was the most challenging moment in your blogging journey so far?
The most challenging for me was the second half of 2018 and first half of 2019. I had my websites seeing very much inconsistency. I was in a job and that time I was not getting enough time to work for my websites. I had a lot of content but just couldn’t find enough time to write or to keep the blogs alive. Then my father’s health was very much declining which led me to leave the job and relocate to my home town. Relocating did gave me sufficient time to write but then I was lacking content. Gracefully my dad is healthy now and I am a full time blogger. I am taking up as many collaborations as I can and generating content. For 3 domains, I currently am having the content for up to 3 years. Another challenge that I have mostly faced is my social media profiles. I am not much of an instagramers (as they prefer to refer themselves).
9. What is your greatest achievement outside of blogging?
My greatest achievement is blogging. But outside blogging, I would say the research work I have always done as a part of my job. I love to do the research work, make presentations and write.
10. Who Is Your Blogging Hero And Why?
My blogging heroes are my readers and followers who regularly motivate me to keep going. The appreciations and engagements I get on my posts are the major source of motivation for me. Seeing the numbers rising on your website definitely makes you feel good about it and keep going. With numbers I mean viewers and other stats.
11. What Advice Would You Give To A New Blogger Starting Out?
Just be patient, stay true to the genre of your website and don’t mix everything up. Be systematic and tactical. Know what you are doing and the process of it.
12. Have you collaborate with brands? If yes, name few brands you worked with
Yes, there have many collaborations for my blog. Jack Daniels, Alcis, Regenta Hotels, Brij Vasundhara, Le Meridien, Amaira Scarves, British Museum, Royal Challengers Bangalore (IPL), World Graffiti, India Runway Week etc.
13. Finally, what are your thoughts about BloggerMagazine?
I think it is great. Exposure and insight to new and upcoming bloggers is very necessary, which will be much convenient through BloggerMagazine, and to add for the existing ones, more exposure and new visitors never harm.
