Meet The Blogger – Viola Ng

Meet The Blogger - Viola Ng

In our latest interview series which I like to call “Meet the Blogger”, where I spotlight inspiring creatives on this Blogger Magazine. We caught up with Viola Ng who runs v power mommy. Covering motherhood.

The other side of an ordinary girl…I am just Viola

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your Blog?

I am just an ordinary girl who loves writing and expressing my thoughts. I always kept a diary for me to jot down what I am grateful for on a daily basis. After becoming a Mommy, I thought my blog was meant for me to share about bits and pieces of my motherhood. Somewhere along that line, I started to venture into more topics to generate them into content for my readers.

2. Describe what inspired you to start your blog?

I have lost the password to my blog of 8 years. Hence, my passion drops. It came back again after I had Belle (My daughter). She inspires me to start writing again. I always believe in God’s timing. HE linked me back to this blogging journey and I just find that urge to keep my blog alive again.

3. How do you motivate yourself to keep the blog up and running?

I always kept a notebook and jot down every interesting stuffs and notes I thought I would like to share them. To generate a content, it takes time. Especially for a working mother like me, blog has to come in late at night. Hence, I will read my notebook to check how far I have go and have I check them all off my list.

4. How active are you on a weekly basis? How often do you communicate with your followers?

I try to generate a blog post a week. However, if my work and mom’s duties kept me busy for that whole month, I will at least try to keep 2 blog posts up. One of my most popular blog post is Belle’s monthly “growing up” process. So most of my friends and readers are eagerly waiting for them.

5. What do you think is the best social media strategy for getting more visitors to a blog?

I don’t usually check the traffics of my blog because I started off with just ONE reader, that’s me. Sometimes people won’t even click a like or leave a comment. The response was poor on my Facebook page and timeline.I guess you just have to be bold and thick skinned enough to share them in all your social platforms. I feel sad at first but when I reflect back, the reason why I started blogging is because I want to bring my thoughts to a transparent level. I don’t want to be an influencer or famous. I once spoken to my friend about how I gave birth to Belle and she answered “Yes, I read that in your blog”. This is encouraging enough for a small fry writer like me. You might think no one would read them but you never know who are your silent readers. Those are usually the ones who will stay loyal to you.

6. Would you encourage other people to make their blog?

Yes. A million times. I love reading thoughts from other people too. So I am definitely going all out to support a fellow blogger.

7. A lot of people think that blogging is an easy way to make money online. Do you have some tips for those people who are interested in making money from the blog?

To be frank, I don’t monetize through my blog because I have a full time job and my time is basically taken up. It is not impossible but you need to start slow. Try churning out blog posts frequently to capture the interests of your readers. Keep your thoughts transparent.

8. What was the most challenging moment in your blogging journey so far?

The most challenging moment is trying to stay discipline. Time flies for a full time working mom like me. So I have to make sure I find time to generate my blog posts even if it means late night work and no sleep. Another challenge is, by bringing your thoughts transparent, it means more people will get to know about your private life. It is a dilemma because I don’t want my daughter to be exposed to the world that soon.

9. What is your greatest achievement outside of blogging?

I am a host for all kinds of events and an event planner too. I didn’t know this was my destiny when I took up an online course of Professional Wedding Planner back in 2015. Everything falls according to place now.

10. Who Is Your Blogging Hero And Why?

This is a little subjective but I have no definite answer for this. Every bloggers’ have their own strengths and specialty. We just need to appreciate them and start supporting each others with love.

11. What Advice Would You Give To A New Blogger Starting Out?

Don’t focus too much on the traffics or worry if people might not like your content. You are unique and you have your own story to tell.

12. Have you collaborate with brands? If yes, name few brands you worked with

As I mentioned earlier, I have no desires to be an influencer so I don’t actively seek for collaboration. However, I manage to collaborate with an Italian painter, Chiara Magni whose works caught my attention. Read more about her from my latest blog post. I worked with NuNature Malaysia by joining their 3 months’ campaign.

13. Finally, what are your thoughts about BloggerMagazine?

I think this is really the best platform for bloggers to express themselves and to have more exposure. I love you gave bloggers like me a chance to be known even though I am just an ordinary person.
